What makes a fire burn is space between the logs,
a breathing space.
Too much of a good thing, too many logs packed in too tight, can douse the flames
almost as surely as a pail of water would.
So, building fires requires attention to the spaces in between,
as much as to the wood.
When we are able to build open spaces in the same way we have learned to pile on the logs,
then we can come to see how it is fuel,
and absence of the fuel together,
that make fire possible.
We only need to lay a log lightly from time to time.
A fire grows simply because the space is there,
with openings in which the flame that knows just how it wants to burn
can find its way.

Monica Hendrix, LMFT & Coach
I am a Northern CA resident, mother of 2, first responder fire-wife, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and lover of all-things outdoors. I have been in mental healthcare for over two decades and I currently own/operate a behavioral health and social services consulting & therapy business that works with individuals, systems and leaders across the State.
I am deeply committed to helping those who have made it their life’s work to help and serve others. I am driven, both personally and professionally, by the belief that when people are healthy – mind, body & soul – the world will change. The central goal in my work is to support people to let go and experience the true freedom that is possible when we live in authenticity, joy and connection. My life-long love and awe of horses, especially how they so easily exist in this energetic state, is why they are the perfect partner for healing and transformation.
I am a Gestaltist
Throughout my years doing clinical work with trauma, I always felt like there was a missing piece to the puzzle on how to truly help others on their journey towards healing. Cognitive understanding isn’t enough. We also need to help our bodies let go of the stressful experiences and memories they have been carrying for us.
Gestalt considers the whole person – it understands that humans are an intricate network of our minds, bodies, experiences, and environments that should be fully tended to in order to achieve and maintain wellness. Trauma and enduring stress are stored in the body, which over time can lead to chronic tension, pain, illness, reduced mental wellness and overall disengagement with ourselves and those around us. It also zaps us from our joy, our creativity, our passions, our inner flame that drives us.
When these experiences and feelings are given a safe opportunity to be acknowledged and released, rather than quieted, shoved down and stored — we become free. Horses see right through us. They are intuitive, present creatures by their very nature. As prey animals, it is what helps them read the world around them and survive. That means they can “see” us — our truest energy, unspoken beliefs & emotions — before we even see (or acknowledge) it ourselves. This is their gift… this is how they help us heal.
Through the EGC Method I am able to partner with the amazing healing energy of horses to help individuals increase their awareness of the underlying “stuff” that is holding them back. Rather than the more traditional talk-therapy approach, the practice provides an intensive, experientially-based process using Gestalt techniques to create a deep, somatic, mind-body release.
Individuals from all different backgrounds and ages can benefit from the EGC Method®.
